New Government Support

The Government today has announced additional support for businesses in the hospitality and leisure sectors. It was announced that businesses in the hospitality and leisure sector who have been impacted by the Omicron variant will be eligible for a one-off grant of up to £6,000. This is to help businesses as footfall could be down at what is normally one of the busiest times of the year due to the Omicron variant.

This grant will be available from your local authority and should appear on their website in the next coming weeks. For Portsmouth, it should appear here.

They have also announced more than £100 million discretionary funding which will be available to local authorities to support other businesses if they are eligible. This should be along the same lines as what the Additional Restrictions Grant was. This should also appear on your local authorities' website in the coming weeks.

The Government is also now re-introducing the Covid-related Statutory Sick Pay (SSP) grants for small to medium businesses. This means you will be able to claim back any Covid-related SSP for up to 2 weeks for any employee who is off. This will become available from mid-January and you will be able to make a backdated claim to today (21st December 2021) if eligible.

There has currently been no mention of SEISS or CJRS being re-introduced.

As soon as we have any more information about the relevant grants we will inform our clients.
