This year at Revis & Co we are celebrating our 25th Anniversary on May 1st! We now have 6 full-time employees including myself, with an office in Cosham High Street.
But how did we get here?
Well, I started the business in 1998 when I built a desk in the corner of my bedroom and invested in a computer and a briefcase. Incidentally, I still have that briefcase, not bad for £70!
But why did I start my own business in the first place?
I left school at 16 with no qualifications, It wasn’t until I was 25 that I decided to go to college, where I spent 6 years studying and subsequently qualified in 1996. I then applied for various roles in the accounting industry, but the replies I received were either I was overqualified or I lacked experience. I reached a dead end, and all that studying had come to nothing.
That’s when I decided to go it alone. I was working for a bank at the time and they agreed to change my hours to work full-time over 4 days, so on Wednesdays, I worked on the business. In 6 months I had 5 clients- it was a slow process!
Gradually as I built the business, I reduced my hours at the bank, and eventually, I was only working 15 hours a week. It was then finally time after 13 years of working at the bank to bite the bullet and go full-time in the business. It was a major risk considering I had a young family to support- I guess in hindsight that it was a risk worth taking as the rest is history! Here we are in 2023, happy birthday Revis & Co. Hopefully in another 25 years' time it will be Jack writing this blog…
